Keeping busy + being independent!

Hey everyone! I know I haven't had a personal post in quite some time but here it is. Someone on Tumblr asked me to write a post about my "me" time, keeping busy and being independent, so I'm gonna try my best to discuss how I do that.

Keeping Busy

It used to be really hard for me to keep busy when I wasn't working. I didn't have a job during the summer or go to school so I kinda just sat at home all day unless I was hanging out with someone. It became really difficult because I would just get super depressed very easily (which is another post for another day) so I had to fix that. A lot of you know already but if you don't, I'm super into DIY and making things. If I see a picture of something I could probably easily make it but anyway crafting would always keep me super busy. Making bows and jewerly was really fun for me.  It doesn't have to be crafting, just pick a hobby you're super into and just do it. Or even try something new!

Reading is another good thing to do to keep busy. I could spend hours reading. I used to never ever buy books until I discovered dollar book stores and buying books from thrift stores and now I'm obsessed. I can't stop, I have so many books I have to read but I've just been so busy with work and such and I don't have time. I think everyone would love reading if they just found the right book, so just research or even ask me, I love giving book recomendations.

I also love catching up on my tv shows! I don't really watch a lot of tv but there are a few shows that I'm really into:
-RuPaul's Drag Race
- New Girl
-Girls
-Friends
- Sex and the City

Also try not to spend your entire day on the internet! I know how hard that can be especially with Tumblr, eBay, Pinterest and all that. Go outside and do stuff you don't normally do!

Being Independent

I always thought I wasn't independent at all. It took me a long time to finally get a job so for a while I never had any money like at all. I also don't have a car, I take the bus everywhere. But I thought about it, being independent is just doing stuff on your own. So this is kinda hard for me to write about because I'm still learning, but I will try my best.

Earning your own money and saving it would be very helpful. I am still learning this. I would say when you get your paycheck try not to spend it all in once place. Also putting some of your money in a Savings account would be really good too. Christian is a Finanical Advisor so I try to learn all these good techniques from him. Don't forget to keep track of your expenses!

Going places by yourself is also a good way to start. I know it can be scary at first because you're all alone but it can also be very fun. It also helps because you learn that you don't need people with you at all times.

Doing your own laundry. I know this sounds kinda silly but doing things on your own that your parents don't do for you will help you in the long run, especially if you plan on moving out sometime in the future. I honestly am still working on this, I like to say I'm a late bloomer and there is nothing wrong with that.

If you need any advice on a certain topic, please let me know! I also apologize for the lack of posting, I've been working a lot but I will try to keep up with this blog and also Something Sassy!

Have a great weekend <3

Two DIY's in one!

Hey guys! I decided to do a spur of the moment DIY! I think I'm gonna wear this on 4th of July with my new shorts I made. It's super easy and cute and if you are interested, keep scrolling!

First start off with a shirt. It doesn't have to be plain but if you want to put a pocket on it, it should be plain or have a simple print. I got this one at Micheal's but you can get them anywhere. I wish mine was larger because then the tank top will be looser but I'm working with what I have.

Now you fold your shirt in half and cut off the sleeves. Make sure you cut off  the seams. Now this part you can be as creative as you want, I only cut off a little past the arm pit because I like it like that. I've seen a lot of tank tops that go down really far, and while I  think they're very cute, I can't pull them off but you do what you like! It also doesn't have to be perfect because it's supposed to look kinda messy. You can also cut off the bottom of your shirt as well like I did.

Now this part is optional. At first I wasn't going to cut off the neck but I tried it on and it look really weird on me so I decided to cut it off and I liked it a lot better. So this part is also up to you.

So ta-da! You have completed your tank top! You can always stop here but I wanted to add an adorable pocket because I thought it looked too plain.

To make a pocket you will need:

- Scissors
- Some kind of glue. I'm using E6000 because it's heavy duty but you can use hot glue if you like. I got this glue at Micheal's but I know you can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot or any hardware store.
- Fabric of your choosing.
- A pocket pattern on heavy paper.

Now you just lay your pattern on the fabric (make sure the fabric is facing down) and cut around the pocket. Make sure there is a couple inches of fabric around the pattern because we will be gluing that down.

Now all you have to do is fold down the fabric tightly so it looks like a pocket. It does not have  to be neat at all because it going right on the shirt. As you can see, mine is very messy.

Now turn it around to check if it resembles a pocket. Sometimes you may have to pull the fabric tighter around the paper. How cute is this fabric though?!

Now you just have to figure out where you want your pocket. It can go anywhere you want it to!

I'm going to be gluing my pocket on but you can sew it if you like. So I'm just putting the glue all over the back of the pocket.

I'm just firmly pressing down the pocket to make sure it stays. You may want to leave it alone for a bit so it dries.

You've finished your pocket tank top!

Here is a few of in the tank top! Excuse the camera selfie, I didn't have anyone to take my pictures for me. I hope you all enjoyed this! I'll probably be making more of these in the near future. I hope you all have a great week!

Update!

Hey guys!

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been super busy lately. I'll let you know what's going on with me though! I recently got a job at a dollar book store and I've been working every other day. I love it so much. I work by myself usually and I help people find books and I'm also a cashier. It's pretty far away and it takes two buses but it's worth it. I also have been busy with school because finals are coming up. But other then that everything is good! Here are a hodge podge of pictures of my life lately but excuse the crappy iPod pictures because I didn't have time to grab my camera.

Christian and I went to Seal Beach and got greek food and ate it by the beach and watched the sun go down. It was super great!

The other night I went to Christian's house and we walked his dog Cooca. It was so nice out, we decided that we're gonna make time to do it once a week. She is the sweetest dog ever!

At the bookstore I work at, not only do I get 25% off the entire store but I also get one free book a week! So I chose this Marilyn Monroe book with so many pictures I've never seen of her before!

I also recently had boba with my friend Jason from high school!

So I'm aware this post is kinda random and such but I just wanted a quick update on what's going on with me. I'll hopefully post more when I have the time. Have a great weekend everyone!
